ESCHERICHIA COLI

Escherichia Coli or commonly abbreviated as E. coli, is one of the main species of gram-negative bacteria. In general, bacteria that was discovered by Theodor Escherich can be found in the human colon. Most E. Coli are harmless, but some, such as E. Coli type O157: H7, can cause serious food poisoning in humans. E. Coli are harmless can benefit humans by producing vitamin K2, or by preventing other baketi in the gut.

E. coli is widely used in genetic engineering technology. Usually used as vectors to insert specific genes are desired to be developed. E. coli was chosen because it grows very fast and easy handling.

E. coli normally lives inside your intestines, where it helps your body break down and digest the food you eat. Unfortunately, some types (called strains) of E. coli can get from the intestines into the blood. This is a rare disease, but can cause very serious infections.
Someone who has the infection of E. coli may have these symptoms:
  • Bad stomach cramps and abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea, sometimes with blood in it
One very bad strain of E. coli found in fresh spinach in 2006 and some fast-food hamburgers in 1993. Cows may contain E. coli because the bacteria often infect cattle. This can be in meat derived from cattle and also in their feces, called manure. Cow manure in your food? How could that happen? Not intentionally, of course, but it can happen if the manure used for fertilizer (a common practice to help plant growth) or if water contaminated with E. coli is used to irrigate crops.

Escherichia coli is a short rod-shaped bacteria (Basil) belonging to the Gram-negative and live in the digestive tract or intestine in both animals and humans. Escherichia coli that contaminate food ingredients derived from human feces, so that its presence in food or fresh fish indicate a health threat to consumers (humans), because it may mean that food has been contaminated by human feces. Therefore then, Escherichia coli is used as an indicator of contamination that is harmful to humans and animals.

Threats that may endanger the health of consumers, because some pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli that can infect humans and animals. It is caused by the ability of the bacterium Escherichia coli produce toxins that can cause gastro enteritis in humans and animals characterized by symptoms of diarrhea, fever, sometimes accompanied by vomiting and even death

Livestock, especially cattle, sheep, and goats, is a reservoir of EHEC bacteria. Animal waste contains bacteria that can contaminate meat or milk, which is then processed less than perfect.

Vegetables from gardens that are irrigated river water contaminated with animal feces, is also likely to trigger diarrhea. Therefore, those who love to eat fresh vegetables or salad, fresh vegetables should wash vegetables before eating. 'm A fan of animal products is recommended that heats the food evenly at the recommended temperature. Breeders of cattle, sheep, or goats should also always wash your hands after working in the cattle pen.

The peternaqk to prevent transmission could increase the cleanliness of the cow shed and slaughter houses. "The equipment, meat and milk should not be contaminated by faeces containing the bacteria EHEC. Although EHEC is also widely believed to occur in developing countries including Indonesia, infection data in countries not currently exist.

Danger posed

Diseases caused by Escherichia coli in humans causes gastro enteritis is characterized by symptoms of diarrhea, fever, sometimes accompanied by vomiting and even death, and cause a variety of cases such as acute diarrhea in many species of livestock and poultry. On the livestock and poultry can cause economically significant losses, such as decreased productivity, weight loss, can even be followed by death.

Prevention
Prevention of diseases caused by Escherichia coli can be done by increasing cage sanitation, environment, food, tools are always kept clean, feed and supplements that are good, chlorination of drinking water, cleaning cages and the environment periodically (scheduled) and then do the disinfection / fumigation and isolation of infected animals, treatment is performed on individuals who are infected.

Treatment
From the antibiotic sensitivity test performed, can be used for the treatment of antibiotic chloramphenicol.
